Video Game Blogging

There are a handful of things that I want to accomplish with this website. The most important being to have fun and share that fun with other people. I’ve blogged about gaming culture in the past, and although I had a hard time finding my voice, I look back fondly on the entire experience. Video games are my favorite hobby and contribute to the biggest passions I feel in my life. They’ve guided me towards my go-to entertainers, helped break the ice at new jobs by finding some common ground with my co-workers, and been a getaway for my wife and I when the Netflix queue ran dry. There are so many great things to say about video games, and this gaming blog will house a lot of those thoughts.

Even though I think introductions to ideas on websites are a shaky concept these days (it makes more sense to just get to the good stuff, you know?!), I wanted to set up a few expectations for those that wander in and let you all know the types of focus points the blog will have for now.

World of Warcraft (WoW) is going to be a big emphasis of the blog. There are a few reasons for this, but the biggest one is that the game has a rich history and a lot to draw from. A lot of the concepts that interest me within the gaming industry exist within WoW’s universe and community. It’s a massive experience that was released back in 2004 and it still commands the largest paying subscriber base of any MMORPG on the market. So there’s a lot to talk about.

I’d say that between beginner, average, and expert I am an average player. I know quite a bit about the game, but not a lot. I’m not keen on end-game content and am at the time of writing this in the process of leveling a newly created character that I’m going to use as my main character in the game. Through my Human Warlock I am going to experience the World of Warcraft and write about those experiences here on the blog. I guess it’s fair to say it’ll be the main feature.

Other things that have a good chance of being written about on the blog are Pokemon on the Nintendo Switch, Final Fantasy, retro games, and some unpopular opinions about games developed for smart phones. Basically, it’ll be a traditional blog.

blog – a regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual or small group, that is written in an informal or conversational style. (from Google)

In future posts I’ll do my best to include some better design choices such as including pictures to give your eyes a break from all this text. I’m going to try to use everything from my time in-game to preserve the authenticity of the discussion (screenshots, short videos, etc.). This post is pretty bland because the louder part of me wanted to get started and begin writing.

Thanks for being here.
